18 Days February 5-22, 2020

Escape the winter blues, experience Arizona living and bask in the sun in Mesa

Our journey will be 3 travel days to Mesa and 3 travel days return to Red Deer leaving us 12 wonderful days to enjoy the nice weather and explore the region around Mesa.

Day 1 - Wed Feb 5 Our journey begins travelling from Red Deer to Helena MT. Travelling south you can sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Day 2 - Thurs Feb 6 Today take us through Idaho Falls and Plymouth before arriving in Provo. Almost time to pack the mittens away.

Day 3 - Fri Feb 7 Making our way to Mesa we stop in Richfield, Mount Carmel before arriving at Mesa staying there for the next 12 days. This hotel opened in October of 2018 and includes daily free hot breakfast buffet, complimentary light supper receptions Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, free internet access, 24hr business center, 24hr coin laundry services, heated outdoor pool 7am-10pm, whirlpool, in room full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, ice maker and dishwasher.

Day 4 – Sat Feb 8 Our adventures today, free of winter apparel will take us to True Garden for a farm tour. This unique vertical aeroponic food farm is the first of its kind facility to operate by solar power. There will be a shopping shuttle to pick up grocery items for your unit

Day 5 - Sun Feb 9 Free day! We can finally relax and unwind after all those long days of driving. Spend the day doing whatever you please

Day 6 - Mon Feb 10 Today we are going to enjoy a tour of Biosphere 2.  One of the world’s most unique facilities dedicated to the research and understanding of global scientific issues. Its mission is to serve as a center for research, outreach, teaching and life-long learning about Earth. Back to the hotel to freshen up for this evening social in the hotel.    

Day 7 - Tues Feb 11 Our day starts with stopping at a flea market to see what hidden treasure you can find.  This afternoon we visit  the Desert Botanical Garden, a wonderful living art collection spanning over 140 acres with over 4482 plant species. Tonight, there will be another social in the hotel to end your day.

Day 8 - Wed Feb 12 A private tour of Steve Sheard property viewing the beautiful rose garden is in our travels today.  A picture taking experience you must not miss. Our next stop will be to the Sphinx Date Company where they offer the freshest locally sourced dates and edible gifts.  The afternoon you have the choice to go shopping at the Superstition Centre mall or relax back at the hotel before the evening social.

Day 9 – Thurs Feb 13 A drive along the historic Apache Trail circle route, passing by ghost towns, goldmines, three desert lakes and many more unique sites. The historic trail gets its name from the Apache Indians who originally used the trail to navigate through the Superstition Mountains. It then became a stagecoach route in the early 1900s and now winds its way through both the Superstition Mountains and Tonto National Forest.

Day 10 Fri Feb 14 A visit to Pima Air Space Museum is on the agenda, one of the largest non-government funded aviation and space museums in the world featuring over 350 historical aircrafts. Over 100 years of aviation history in their extensive collection

Day 11 Sat Feb 15 Another free day to spend however you desire!  

Day 12 Sun Feb 16 Get your cowboy boots shined up and put on your cowboy hats we are off to Tombstone.  Step back in time and enjoy the Old West atmosphere of the “Town too tough to die” Walk the very same streets where Wyatt Earp and his brothers enjoying company of the likes of Doc Holiday.  Stand where the legendary stories of where the past actually occurred in the authentic Wild West.        

Day 13 Mon Feb 17 Another full day on your own to relax and enjoy the sun as your Alberta friends are home with shovels in hand moving snow.  Don’t forget about the evening social at the hotel.

Day 14 Tues Feb 18 We are making our way today to Queens Creek.  Here we will first stop at the Queen Creek Olive Mill.  This is Arizona’s only working olive farm and mill, family owned and operated with over 7000 olive trees is a true blossom to bottle. After having lunch at the Olive mill and time to purchase some tasty delights we make our way to Hayden flour mills.  Another family owned business that is devoted to making the freshest and most flavorful flours from some of the world’s oldest varieties of wheat.  After a full day we arrive back at the hotel with time to relax before the evening social.

Day 15 Wed Feb 19   Our last day in Mesa before we start our journey home.  Today we will head over to the flee market to explore for treasure one last time.  A relaxing day and time to pack. Enjoy our last social in the hotel this evening and look back on our time in Mesa
Day 16 Thurs Feb 20 We bid our farewell to Mesa travelling to Provo today where we will stay for the night.

Day 17 Fri Feb 21 We will travel from Provo to Helena today welcome back to toques and mittens again.

Day 18 Sat Feb 22 Hopefully it’s a short winter and the sun is shining and snow melting when we get home.
